I created some 2D drilling paths in Fusion 360 and exported the nc code, put it on my SD card for the offline controller - and it worked as intended: from the start position lifting up 2mm, start the drill. The best way to mitigate this is with a surface map of the board once it's mounted. Any irregularity in the surface can result in a bad board. The next issue is the cut itself, as it needs to be very consistent. The problem arises because of the shape of the cutting tool and the depth of the cut needed to remove the copper cladding to isolate traces. Track widths are larger than I would like and cannot be (easily) routed between other pins.

Machine control software that combines a graphical part program development, animation and verification into a powerful PC based machine tool controller. There is a learning curve for sure and getting a good result is not guaranteed. Grbl Controller is designed to send GCode to CNC machines, such as 3D milling machines. I have used a Genmitsu 3018-PRO to good effect for a few boards.
